Male Hair Loss Treatment – What Options Do You Have?

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Male hair loss treatments are big business. That is because for many men, losing their hair as they age is a devastating experience. It can happen at any age following puberty and has a number of causes. For these reasons there are huge numbers of men looking for an effective male hair loss treatment. If you are looking for a male hair loss treatment what options do you have?

The first thing you should do before even considering buying a male hair loss treatment is to consult your doctor. A doctor can ask all the necessary questions to try and determine the cause of your hair loss. There are many causes of male hair loss which are reversible and not a cause for worry. And pinpointing these causes is the first step before even considering any form of male hair loss treatment.

For example there are both medical conditions and medical treatments which can cause hair loss. Often when the medical condition is treated the hair can grow back or when the medical treatment is stopped the hair can grow back. In both cases the use of any form of male hair loss treatment is unnecessary.

However it is true that the vast majority of cases of male hair loss are caused by hereditary factors – male pattern baldness. Currently there is no prevention for male pattern baldness. Men who are diagnosed with this condition may need to consider some form of male hair loss treatment.

However there are some preliminary decisions to make. How concerned are you about losing your hair? There are large numbers of men who lose their hair and are not sufficiently concerned to seek treatment. And baldness is almost a fashion now. This may have started with Yul Brinner, but a bald head makes a statement.

And how prepared are you for the downside of using various forms of male hair loss treatments? They can be invasive, expensive, impermanent and for many men just do not work.

Notwithstanding, there are many men who still want to find methods of replacing their hair. And there are male hair loss treatments which work, but not for everyone.

The effective male hair loss treatments can be broken down into types. Firstly there are the topical applications. There is minoxidil, which is known by various trade names. It is applied directly to the scalp, and slows hair loss or promotes hair growth in some, but not all men. There is also finasteride which is taken as a tablet and also has an effect on slowing hair loss and promoting hair growth in some but not all men.

It should be understood that these results only continue as long as the product is used and so many question whether they are a really effective male hair loss treatment when it is realised that to continue to receive the benefits it is necessary to continue on the product indefinitely.

Then there are the surgical methods. They are all a form of plastic surgery. You can opt for hair transplant surgery where individual hairs are taken from the other parts of the head and replanted onto the affected areas. Or scalp reduction which is a method of taking out a small part of the affected area, or flap surgery which takes an area of scalp with good hair growth and over time stretches it to take over from areas which are affected by the hair loss.

All are effective male hair loss treatments when done correctly but are not suitable for all men. And they are usually expensive.

So, if you are suffering from male hair loss, see you doctor and find out the cause. Next, spend some time thinking about how prepared you are to live with it. And for those who are sufficiently motivated to do something about it find out more about effective male hair loss treatments. They do exist, they do work, but not for everyone.

Discover the Web of Funny Domain Names

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Recently I wanted to see how many web sites have funny or interesting domain names. I was motivated to do this after reading
an article on CNN about milliondollarhomepage.com. What an idea,
I thought to myself. So I started searching on similar web pages.
What I found out was a whole bunch of copy cats! One such example
is youllbefamous.com. Their idea is similar to milliondollarhomepage.com; if you buy a pixel on their site, they
will put an ad for you in Usa Today newspaper and you will be
famous!

So started searching more for funny domain name sites. What I came up with is astounding.

Everyone knows about Yahoo, Google, etc. But did you know there
is site with url : http://3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592.com?
If you are wondering what it means,
they have converted the value of famous mathematical constant into a domain name! However, there is more. If you go to their site, you
can find out the value of PI to the one millionth places after the decimal.

I found sites like www.indiapakistan.com which presents countries India
and Pakistan side by side. It is a cute site with a cute domain name.

There are sites with domain names www.thankyou.com and www.thanks.com. They are cool looking shopping sites, the first one for cakes and deserts and the second one for e cards.

Some of the sites, despite their funny domain names, are quite
serious and useful. Some of these sites are http://www.happynews.com/,
http://www.realityclock.com/, http://www.blinkbits.com/ etc.

I found web sites www.sexisforfags.com and www.ironhymen.com which with their funny domain name try to teach dangers of
having sex early in life to to young kids. Very commendable effort.

There are sites like www.two.com and i-do.com which, quite arguably, chosen a very appropriate names for the kind of business they are in. The two.com site really has cool flash
intro page. Check them out!

There are sites with very nice sights and sounds, e.g www.themeatrix.com, www.dreamcar.com, etc. Visit those sites, you
will not be disappointed.

Two sites deserves special mention, www.bugmenot.com and www.nomoreaolcds.com. Both sites live upto their well
chosen domain names. Check it out and you will see why. The first
site will help you bypass the useless registration page for various web site by giving you working login ids.

There is a site called www.rotten.com which true to its domain name, has lot of disturbing pictures and (supposedly real) on its site. Surfers are, however, warned beforehand before clicking on the link.

Did you know there is one site called www.billgatesisdead.com which starts with the fake news of Bill Gates’s death? Very funny. So is www.engrish.com which lists funny english phrases from foreign countries, especially Japan.

Most of you probably know about sites like www.fool.com and www.gorillatrades.com which
deal with pretty serious business, the business of making money
from stock market. In fact if you follow their advice, you will probably make money. Good luck.

Author is a software engineer by profession and occasional writer.
He has a web site at http://www.funnydomainnames.com/ which contains growing list of such sites.

Self Discipline And Business Success

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

In his audio e-book, 10 Habits to Swell Your
Bank Account, Mike Green cites “discipline” as one
of the 10 bank-account-swelling habits. I once received
an email from an online marketing friend, which stated
something to the effect of “how hard do we work? If
people think earning money online is easy their crazy.
Don’t burn to much midnight oil.”

Self-discipline is a crucial factor in developing
business success. Whether you are online or offline you’ll
need to develop some level of self-discipline. As I was
reading Mr. Green’s e-book I began to think about the
factors or “disciplines” that make up business self-discipline.

I think the first discipline is developing an
understand that you’re home business, your entrepreneurial
project, your online part-time business is a job. It’s
one more form of employment but you’re working for
yourself, your family, your partners, or other shareholders.
Those of use who work 8-5 or are employed by others
get up every morning, go to work, do our job, and receive
our paycheck. You need to view your self-employment
in the same manner. There will be no profit without regular,
sometimes monotonous effort.

The second discipline, I believe, is consistency.
Have a time for everything and everything done in it’s time.
Set a time to perform administrative tasks such as maintain
the books; set a time to engage in management tasks such
as meeting or being with employees and do it. Set times to
develop goals and budgets and do it. Be consistent in your
projects, endeavors, and campaigns. If you decide on a
given marketing campaign be assured one of the factors that
will determine the success of the campaign will be your
willingness to be consistent in your marketing. Consistency
develops brand awareness, product/service recognition, and
credibility.

Consistency also means answering every business
inquiry, every phone call, every email, every fax, every phone message
in a timely and customer friendly manner. This builds
trustworthiness and credibility which over the long term
will serve you very well.

For those who work from their homes, consistency
tends to be difficult thus it’s important to develop a work
area and a work schedule that integrates with your family,
friends, and other engagements. You then need to hold
the line and be consistent with that schedule and area.

For example, I check my email in the early evening and
I make sure to inform my kids that I’ll be with them when
I’m done and not before. I also work on my website in
the late evening hours and my wife know that rarely
should I be interrupted. I also keep a fairly consistent
schedule concerning how often and when I write articles;
how often and when I visit online forums; and when I
read articles and research pertaining to my online business.

Which brings me to the third discipline. I believe
the third discipline making up self-discipline is ongoing learning.
Whether you’re in business online, offline or both you
should be making a disciplined effort to stay abreast of
your chosen field of business. You should be reading
articles, reading research, engaging in discussion with
professional colleagues, and in generally always attempting
to grow your knowledge base.

For my business, “Consumer Thinking.com” I read
at least one academic journal article per week; I read at least
one online business/marketing article per day and I read at
least one ebook per week. This is in addition to the three
hardcopy books I have going.

This practice provide me with several benefits.

1) I always have material for writing fresh articles;

2) I always have fresh information to use when I’m visiting online forums;

3) I always have fresh material for developing new
information products; and

4) I am assured of quality, relevant content for my
monthly ezine.

By always expanding your knowledge base and increasing
your learning it helps you develop credibility and legitimacy
in your chosen field, profession, or business.

The fourth and final discipline that I’ve
identified is the discipline of sacrifice. Every successful
entrepreneur and self-employed business person I know
and know of have engaged in the discipline of sacrifice.
They’ve given up entertainment for extra marketing; they’ve
sacrificed sleep for quiet hours to be creative and
productive; they’ve sacrificed leisure time for learning.
If you plan on being successful in business you’ll need to
give up a few hours in front of the television or fewer
nights out at the bars and clubs. If your focus, vision,
and business are worthwhile the sacrifice will be worth it.

There is no avoiding self-discipline if you plan
on being successfully self-employed. You’ll need to
sacrifice, be consistent, keep learning, and view your
self-employment as a real job. Combining discipline
with patience, focus, and passion tends to lead to success.

Bridgework – the Oldest Cosmetic Dentistry Procedure

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Bridgework is perhaps the oldest of all cosmetic dentistry procedures. The scientific name is pontics, from the Latin word pontus, literally meaning “bridge.” This really refers to the purpose of bridgework: to create an artificial tooth (or teeth) that replaces a missing natural tooth, thus “bridging” the gap between the remaining teeth.

Dental bridges should not be confused with dentures. Full or partial dentures can be removed, and in fact must be removed each night for cleaning. Dental bridges are similar to dentures in that they are artificial replacements for natural teeth, but unlike dentures, they are fused into place.

The cosmetic dentistry professional will create two crowns, or caps, to fit over the teeth on either side of the gap created by the missing tooth, which help to anchor the bridge, or artificial replacement in place. In the past, a bridge was made from metal, such as gold or silver, or even some kind of alloy. Today, porcelain is the preferred choice; it is more durable, non-toxic and matching the color to that of the patient’s natural teeth is much easier.

There are three types of bridges available for cosmetic dentistry applications:

  • Traditional: as described above, this involves capping the teeth on either side of gap to which the pontic, or artificial tooth is anchored.
  • Cantilever: these are used in cases where there is an adjacent tooth on only one side of a gap. A case in point would be a rear molar, or under some circumstances, on of the two upper front teeth.
  • “Maryland:” This is also known as a resin-bonded bridge, whereby artificial teeth and gums are put into place using metal frames attached to the natural teeth on either side. The Maryland bridge is used in situations where there are multiple adjacent teeth missing.

The long-term success of this type of cosmetic dentistry depends on the patient’s commitment to careful and rigorous oral hygiene; with proper care, bridgework can last as long as 15 years.

Get Instant Energy — Without Those Energy Drinks!

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

In today’s world there is no such thing as too much energy. Everyone wants energy, as much as they can pack in. And they want to have the energy instantly. Energy drinks have filled in this modern human need quite effectively. They give you the instant burst of energy that you always wanted. Energy when you need it — like flicking a switch.
Many people go for energy drinks at times of increased physical and mental stress — to improve their alertness, concentration, and performance. Surveys have shown that many of the world’s top athletes and drivers consume energy drinks. Many people with active lifestyles depend on energy drinks to revitalize their body and mind. While the short-term effectiveness of energy drinks cannot be disputed, their long-term effects need to be carefully studied.
Energy drink companies also claim that their products enhance focus and concentration, improve short term memory, and contain much less sugars than normal soft drinks.
Most energy drinks are said to provide a combination of B vitamins, amino acids, and stimulants such as caffeine or guarana. Energy drinks come in different fruity flavors. What energy drinks do is convert sugars contained in them (fructose and glucose) into energy and at the same time stimulate the red blood cells to release more oxygen. This is the source of the instant energy in the energy drinks.
Energy drinks also contain citric acid which is harmful to the teeth. The unpredictability of the use of energy drinks lies in the fact that they produce different reactions in different people. Energy drinks have stimulating properties that can boost the heart rate and blood pressure. Taken in excess, energy drinks can dehydrate the body and, like other stimulants, they also prevent sleep.
But as long as the modern world demands high-intensity bursts of energy from the human beings who run it, people will continue to consume energy drinks. The question is how to get instant energy without the drawbacks associated with energy drinks.
Fortunately, there is a way out. The wonder sugars that can keep you in a high-energy orbit without the harmful effects associated with energy drinks have now been discovered. A lot of research is currently going on into the role played by glyconutrients, a class of saccharides usually found in plant sugars, in the development of the human body. Glyconutrients are called ’sugars that heal’ for the amazing role they play in human health.
Glyconutrients are necessary for some of the fundamental biochemical processes in the body, such as cell-to-cell communication. Eight of these sugars have been identified as particularly useful for the body. Our diets usually provide us with two of these eight sugars. The rest of the sugars can also be supplemented by taking fruits and vegetables. But glyconutrients are found only in fruits grown organically and these have to be consumed within 24 hours to get the right amount of nutrition.
Energy drinks and supplements with glyconutrients – called glyconutritionals –are now available. For your body to be free of fatigue and to perform optimally, the bodily functions have to take place like clockwork. This is what the glyconutrients do – they keep the communication links open between cells.
With glyconutrients keeping cellular communication pathways open, and the immune and endocrine systems in top working order, your body will not feel any fatigue.

Lisa Hyde-Barrett, a registered nurse and wellness advocate, understands the relationship between good nutrition and good health. She’s become passionate about the new research behind sugars, specifically glyconutritional products.

“Just say no” ain’t enough to avoid holiday weight gain

Friday, August 1st, 2008

The holiday season is coming up fast. For weeks magazines and newspapers have been printing recipes and alluring photographs of rich, mouth-watering goodies such as cookies, candies, dips, and calorie-laden drinks.

Then, in the same issue, they offer guidance on how not to eat all this stuff. Pace yourself, they advise. Limit yourself to one tidbit every half-hour. Eat a salad before going to a cocktail party, so that you wont be tempted by all the snacks. Yeah, right – like my inner brat is going to forego the fondue because I pre-loaded with lettuce.

Nutrition experts tell us that on average, people gain 5-7 lb. during the holiday season.

It’s hard to resist all the treats, especially when we’re faced with them in ads and displays, as well as on counter tops at home, at work and when visiting. Our inner brat nags at us, whining that we really do “need” that extra helping of pie. Or it rationalizes that a couple of cookies don’t add up to much, and that we can exercise a little more later.

Controlling your eating is difficult at this time of year. To “just say no” is a good strategy for occasional temptations, but it doesn’t work when you’re bombarded with images, aromas and offerings of one treat after another.

Self-control is mentally draining. When you repeatedly say “no” to treats, you gradually deplete your mental energy. That’s why most people fall off their diets later in the day, when their strength to resist is at a low point.

A better solution: not confronting the yes/no question in the first place. The secret is to limit your exposure to temptation. Here are some tips:

1. Store treats in the back of a cupboard or fridge. Wrap them in opaque paper or plastic, so that you don’t easily notice them.

2. If there are goodies out on counters or desks at work, reroute yourself so that you don’t walk by.

3. Avoid reading recipes for calorie-laden foods. When you see photos of cakes and other desserts in magazines, turn the page quickly. Less exposure is less temptation.

4. If you go to business-related holiday cocktail parties, resolve to visit the buffet table only once. If possible, stay no more than half an hour.

5. Spend some time outside every day. Nature helps clear your head, so that your cravings are less noticeable.

6. Get more sleep. Not only will you get the usual benefits of being more alert and less irritable, but research shows that people who sleep more have a better balance of the hormones that regulate hunger – and they weigh LESS than those who don’t get enough sleep!
