Select Your Flooring Carefully

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

There are numerous factors which need to be taken into consideration when choosing what type of

href="http://www.yourfloors.co.uk">flooring to get fitted. Getting new flooring fitted in your

home can breathe new life into it and can be a great way to improve your living environment. It may

not be as expensive as you think either.

An important factor when choosing flooring is the function of the room it will go in. Flooring which

is suitable for the front room may not be suitable for the kitchen or bathroom for example. Some of

the most popular types of flooring are carpet, vinyl, wood, and laminate.

Laminate flooring can be a great alternative to wooden flooring if you are looking for a wood effect

floor at a lower cost. Laminate flooring is made from a sheet of MDF with a wood-effect plastic

surface glued to it. One pitfall of laminate flooring is that whilst it is scratch resistant once it

is scratched it is not possible to repair. Apart from that it can still be a perfect choice for a

kitchen, where the plastic coating provides an easy to wipe clean surface. On the other hand a solid

wood flooring would not be appropriate in a bathroom, or in fact any room which is likely to get

very humid and wet. Some woods are particularly sensitive to moisture such as beech.

If you are looking to fit a wooden floor, its important you have the right surface to fit it on. An

ideal surface would be flat, and dry. There are options however to counter uneven flooring issues,

such as laying ply throughout, or employing an underlay to create a floating floor.

Often laminate flooring is sold as a product you can fit together yourself which is another useful

way of keeping costs to a minimum. Solid wood flooring requires a higher degree of DIY skills, so it

can sometimes be advisable to get solid wooden floors fitted professionally which on the downside

can add substantially to the cost.

One point to remember many people do not realise when they measure their room to calculate how much

flooring they will need to buy ” is that it is crucial to include a 10mm gap around the edge of the

room for the wooden flooring to expand and contract.

As a fundamental part of any interior design strategy, it is important to select the correct

flooring. Whilst wooden or laminate floors can be ideal ” often for a more chic minimalist look;

carpet can be a better option if you are trying to achieve a more traditional home feel. The

important thing is you take into account the various factors you need to consider before ordering

new flooring.

Wedding Invitation Wording

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Getting your Wedding Invitation Wording correct is important. After all the wedding invitation wording is what relays to the guests the time and place they are to join you.

Wedding invitation wording needs to be clear. Wedding guests need to know exactly what portion of your wedding day they are being invited to. Some wedding invitation wording will state that a guest is invited to the whole day, ceremony and reception. Some wedding invitation wording will only state the time of the reception.

There is a certain etiquette that goes along with clear wedding invitation wording with a church wedding have the more formal wedding invitation wording. Something along the lines of

Mr & Mrs The Brides Parents

request the honor of

(handwritten name of guest)

at the marriage of their daughter

Brides name

with

Grooms name

taking place on

date and time clearly stated

at

wedding venue clearly stated

thereafter at

wedding reception venue clearly stated.

Please reply

If you do not want to hand write all your wedding guests names into your wedding invitations replacing the handwritten part with the wedding invitation wording of “request the honor of your presence” is totally fine.

If your wedding is to be at home then your wedding invitation wording can be slightly less formal with “request the honor of your presence” replaced with “request the pleasure of your company”.

As with the church wedding invitation wording an area can be left for you to hand write your guests names if you so choose.

If your wedding is to be held at a friend or relations home for whatever reason then the wedding invitation wording is less formal still. A simple

The pleasure of your company is requested

at the marriage of

Brides name

to

Grooms name

date and time

at the residence of

friends name

and address
is all that is required.

For obvious reasons weddings held in either your own home or that of a friend should be acknowledged as soon as possible. That is something you may want to work into either your wedding invitation wording or place an additional card in the envelope.

As long as you stick certain points of etiquette for your wedding invitation wording and you make sure that all relevant infomation is included then you can quite happily customize your own wedding invitations.

Enjoy your day.

Becoming One Financially

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

When we think of marriage, most of us like to be romantic about it. Marriage brings images of engagement rings and a big white triple-layer cake. Nobody wants to talk about money management, prenuptials and other financial matters.

However, statistics show that the top reason for divorce is disagreeing about money. Don’t get carried away by the sheer romance of getting married. Discuss your financial concerns before you walk down the aisle.

Prenuptial agreements

These legally-binding contracts will save you quite a heartache in the event of a divorce.
But who is ever considering divorce at the time of marriage? It may seem unromantic, and certainly, most of the time it may be unnecessary. However, if you stand to inherit a very large sum of money, if you have a trust fund, or if you own a business, a prenuptial can help you keep what is rightfully yours.

Set a reasonable wedding budget

With the average American wedding costing over $19,000, it makes sense to look into some affordable alternatives. Keeping it small and holding the ceremony and reception in a park or other scenic public place are just two examples of ways that you can save a ton.

Be ready for tax-season

If both spouses work, by law, they both must be taxed at the same rate as that of the highest income-earning spouse. Married couples will be happy to hear, however that the marriage tax penalty is being phased out over the next few years.

Merge your money

Legally, a married couple has joint-ownership of everything. Regardless, a husband and wife will often open a joint bank account to make household expenses easier to track.

Discussing the financial details of marriage one-step-at-a-time can help ease the both of you into a fruitful and harmonious new life together.

Optimizing Your Dead Links!

Monday, November 17th, 2008

I have been reading, with great interest, all the online advice about how to optimize a website. We have a financial planning business in Victoria, BC. Like most towns, there are lots of financial planners, investment advisors, insurance agents, brokers, dealers, and Starbuck’s locations here. Somehow we needed to find a way to stand out, perhaps by getting our meta-tags in order.

For a time, we were looking fabulous in searches on Google, but our site couldn’t be found on Yahoo! Then we got the Yahoo search engine figured out … but promptly disappeared off of Google. Now I thought this optimizing thing would fix it once and for all.

The strategy made sense. You have your title designed, and it ties in with your meta-tags and content. You have your meta-tags match your content. You think about what content you actually want to have. I spent an hour or three on several of our site’s pages optimizing like crazy. Poof!

We were nowhere on Google and now I had successfully torpedoed our site on Yahoo! There were old (really old) dead link pages cropping up in searches for us on Yahoo. The brand spanking new, optimized pages were nowhere to be found. Huh?

Perhaps I needed to wait for the spiders and robots to visit. Day after day I would check. Financial Planning Victoria? Nope. Financial Planner Victoria? Nope. CFP Victoria BC? Nothing.

And then, today, I checked Yahoo and there we were #1 or #2 on Yahoo for all kinds of different search terms! It works!!! We were top ranked for at least three dozen different search terms! Financial Planner Victoria – #1! Retirement Victoria BC – #1! Tax planner Victoria – #1! And so on. I was thrilled.

I sent an email to everybody in the office bragging about it, and then set about creating our e-newsletter which tells clients about our website updates each month. I uploaded the new articles. One was about the wonders of technology. I encountered some weird loading prompts. I checked the website. It was extremely slow in loading. I checked it again. The main page was a dead link this time! I checked again, and while the main page loaded, the navigation bar only loaded partially. Dead link. Slow load. Nothing!

Here I had spent all this time optimizing pages and on the day it works, people will be clicking through to dead links! So I am now leaning out the second storey window, holding the computer by the cords in one hand, whilst finishing this article in the other. Should I drop the computer on the street? Come on! Lemme do it! Please! I’m swinging it around now like a lasso. I think I can hang it up on the telephone wires like an old pair of sneakers!

White Sun – Interesting Questions; Interesting Answers

Friday, November 14th, 2008

There are Ten Tribunals of punishment in the Underworld. When animals, fowls, fishes and worms (all living beings except human) die, their souls are sucked back into Hades at the Third Tribunal. Their death is mainly due to slaughtering rather than by sickness. This slaughtering is generally done by human beings and because these creatures seem to know that they have no way of escape, they feel very frightened and cry and scream in their own way. Human beings who lived a very sinful life and maintain an evil mind, when they die, their souls will be reborn as one of the four types of creatures, according to the seriousness of their past sins.

The Emperor of The Third Tribunal is “Songdi Wang” and when he was asked interesting questions by the medium “Yang Sheng” in the Underworld by what he saw, he gave very interesting answers as follows:

Q1: This field contains so many kinds of animals. I have never seen such a varied collection of animals on Earth. This is like a big zoo having tigers, lions, practically every kind of animals, fowls, etc very hard to count…..

Ans: Here I now have a case to tackle. In front of us is a Cock who has come to plead before me. I will let you see his personal file. Before he was a Cock, this fellow was a rich man’s son and he lived in the north of Taiwan. Very often, because of his wealth, he used to rape young girls and also used his money to buy teenage girls so that he could sleep with them in order to retain his vigour and vitality and be happy. He had therefore committed a series of sins. After death, as punishment, he was sentenced to be reborn a Cock for five generations. His sentence is about to come to an end. He is now pleading to be reincarnated.

Q2: This is very frightening. This Cock was formerly a human being! So if one eats the flesh of a fowl is it a sin?

Ans: Every creature has a living soul but of different types and shapes. Their spirituality is exactly like a human being’s spirituality. Human beings like to eat meat because meat contains proteins and fats which help to build up the body; but they do not stop to think that all the four types of creatures are originally from human beings. Inside the bodies of these creatures one type of poisonous impurity is present. When an animal, fowl or fish (when still alive) is about to be slaughtered, this creature gets frightened and struggles thus making making the blood circulate faster and become abnormal thus causing the release of this poisonous impurity into the blood streams and to stick to the flesh. When the flesh is cooked and eaten, human beings also absord this poisonous impurity. Let us take the case of human beings. When a person gets worried or frightened, the blood in his heart changes in quality, the accumulation of these many worries and fears will usually lead to sickness.

Now, to return to the subject of meat eating. As mentioned earlier, meat contains proteins and fats which are good for body building; it also contains the poisonous impurities, therefore there are good points as well as bad points. However, present day scientists advocate the eating of more vegetables and less meat. To those who follow ascetic practices it is advisable to also eat less meat and more vegetables to reduce the poisonous impurities in the body. Otherwise it will be rather difficult to succeed in their attempt. You asked earlier if it is a sin to eat fowl flesh, after what I have just said, it is therefore up to you to decide.

Q3: May I ask your Highness, before us come an ape and a parrot – the ape walks and behaves like a human being while the parrot imitates human being’s speaking – do they belong to a higher stratum of creatures?

Ans: The ape moves like a human being and his brain is smart. In a previous life he was a human being but was too smart, in the negative sense, resulting in damaging himself and committing sins. So, on rebirth, he becomes an animal whilst retaining his human qualities. Regarding the parrot, he now imitates human beings speaking. When he was a human being he was very talkative and talked too much and boastfully, often speaking to cause families to quarrel and break up. Now, being reborn a parrot he is imprisoned in a cage and has to listen tp people speaking and on his part trying to imitate what is spoken and what he hears. Therefore, human beings who are in the habit of making trouble, breaking up families, talking too much, going against the laws of society, etc, when they die, they will be reborn as one of the four types of creatures.

Human becomes animal and animal becomes human. This is true in the cycle of reincarnation. This is one of the reasons why vegetarians do not take meat besides compassion and freeing the animals of the fears and pains before being slaughtered. If we spare someone the fear and pain, one day maybe someone will in return spare us the same fear and pain. This is Karma and the law of universe.

The Manufacturer Profiles Bolt-on Solutions with Insight by Chuck Stewart of Encompix Manufacturing

Friday, November 14th, 2008

The November issue of The Manufacturer reviewed Bolt-on Solutions. It noted, some boutique ERP providers cautiously embrace the bolt-on model. “Our software supports engineering intensive companies,” says Chuck Stewart, founder and executive vice president of Cincinnati, OH-based Encompix, an ERP provider for companies in the engineer to order, make to order, and project management industries. “Sometimes there is functionality that is needed where it makes sense to use a bolt-on application. We don’t want to reinvent.” Stewart uses the example of project management software as a realistic bolt-on application. “Microsoft Project is an industry standard and most, if not all, of our customers use it. It behooves us to make sure that it integrates easily into our ERP system.” It is an application that Stewart has no desire to reinvent.

Stewart advocates an open relationship with third party software providers so he can keep his service levels high and provide support to his installed base. “I’m happy to see an improving relationship with software providers that allow us to identify integrations issues and advise the customer,” says Stewart. “Customers grow weary of tight integration processes and the trouble they cause, both in cost and time, is unacceptable.” He also sees an evolving open standard developing across the industry that is helping ERP companies and third party providers alike. “The architecture is changing and integration is becoming easier,” says Stewart. “We are much more in the loop when it comes to upgrades and changes in software, including being invited to conferences and having access to design teams when necessary.”

Encompix has filled the manufacturing software requirements of Engineer-to-Order companies since 1992. The company name reflects the commitment to developing business application solutions that encompass the complex areas of project-based and job-based manufacturing.

Bayesian Spam Filters Uncovered

Monday, November 10th, 2008

In a word Bayesian spam filters are “intelligent”. Bayesian spam filters are intelligent in so far as they’re capable of comparing two sets of information and acting on the result. This is in direct contrast to the vast majority of other spam filters who use pre-built rules to decide which e-mail is spam and which is not.

Bayesian spam filters can take one group of legitimate e-mail and another group of spam and compare the values and data of each. The definition of legitimate e-mail that it creates at the end of this comparison session is what it uses going forward to scan your inbox for spam.

FYI Bayesian spam filters are named after Thomas Bayes an 18 century cleric who created something known as Bayes Theorem. In summary Bayes Theorem is as follows: ..”in statistical inference to update estimates of the probability that different hypotheses are true, based on observations and a knowledge of how likely those observations are, given each hypothesis.” In plain English it looks for obvious repeating patterns to form an “opinion” on something. In spam filter terms that “opinion” becomes a rule which keeps you spam free (or pretty close :-)

The really neat thing about Bayesian filters is that they’re capable of learning. For example if they decided to block an e-mail because the filter perceived it as junk but the user marked it as valid mail the Bayesian filter then knows not to block that type of e-mail in the future. So, in time, this type of spam filter learns enough to block spam far more effectively. AOL have embraced this type of spam filter with the launch of AOL 9.0 and AOL Communicator- if the big dog wants it then it must be worthwhile?

So what Bayesian spam filtering options are available to you? Well quite a few to be honest and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by some of the names involved :-) The first one on the list is AOL with their AOL Communicator product. The spam filtering features in AOL Communicator and AOL 9 are, to be honest, impressive. Think what you will of the provider themselves AOL Communicator is an excellent product and is suitable for use by both PC and Mac OSX users.

Next up we have Eudora. The nice folks at Qualcomm have designed an excellent e-mail client that also has built in Bayesian spam filtering. I’ve used Eudora in the past and it’s a neat little package. Again the benefits here are advanced integrated spam filtering with your e-mail automatically. Mac OSX and OS9 users are in luck with Eudora providing support for both.

Getting Started With HTML – [Its Really Easy!!]

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

>>= Dont Panic I’m Not A Programmer!!

Does the thought of doing a bit of HTML “coding” make you think “Oh My God I Cant do That!!”. If it does I have some welcome news for you

Coding up your own HTML is really very easy

>>= Life Before Windows

We’ve all got used to the “Windows” operating system computers – but actually there have been computers for a lot more time then there have been “Windows” computers

Its so convenient to use Microsoft Word and similar word processing programs we’ve forgotten what life used to be like back in the dark ages

Whats all this got to do with HTML??
Well before MS Word and similar programs, when you were using a word processor, there was no fancy buttons to press to make the text display “bold” or “underlines” or “justified”

Instead you had to enter a little “code” before the text you wanted to be “bold” and then another little “code” when you wanted to stop the text being bold

for example suppose I wanted my heading: Welcome To My Website – to be in bold. On my old word Processor you simply put [+b] when you wanted the text to start being “bold” and then [-b] when you wanted the text to stop being bold

So that gave me:

[+b]Welcome To My Website[-b]
This would simply have put my title in “bold” when it printed out

>>= Great News HTML Is No Different!!

Amazement of amazement HTML is no different
Instead of [+b] and [-b], HTML simply uses < b> and < /b>
Is that easy or what??

>>= Whats The Basic Structure

Every web page has a basic structure
The basic structure goes like this:

< HTML>
< HEAD>
< TITLE>Your Title< /TITLE>
< /HEAD>
< BODY>
Your Body i.e. the main text for the page
< /BODY>
< /HTML>

Thats it!!

>>= Producing The File

You simply add this basic structure into a text editor such as Notepad, which you will find on your computer under “Programs” – “Accessories”

Once you have this basic code in an empty wordpad Document you simply give the file a name and save it as my_web_page.html

Bingo you have your first web page

Remember: dont forget the file must have the extention “.html”
If you dont have this bit it wont work!!

>>= Viewing The File

To view your new web page simply click on your familiar “e” for Internet Explorer, then click File, Open, Browse.

When you have found your file my_web_page.html – click Open then OK – Thats it – your page will now be showing in the browser!!

That was easy wasnt it!!

>>= Further Code

Now there is a bit more code to learn but actually its very easy

The most important thing to understand is that you MUST put your web page together in a way that Google and the Search Engines will like – otherwise your pages will not get listed or not listed very high

It all comes down to simple basic structure

>>= Further Steps

For further steps on producing your own great HTML code which will rank well with the Search Engines please consult my other articles
